Fourth Quarter District Newsletter

Dear Crescent Bay Scout Leaders,

As the key leaders for the Crescent Bay District, we want to provide you with an update on the District. We also want to know what we can do to support your success.

RECHARTERING

Has been open since October 1st.  There are no packets going out this year, as stated in an email to your key leadership in September.  If you have not already done so, PLEASE go online and start your rechartering.  It is due to the Council by December 1st!  If you have any questions, please contact Josh Bryan.  joshua.bryan@scouting.org

A strong District Committee creates a strong District

We continue our efforts to grow the District Committee. In the last 90 days, Larry Kirven (Troop 223) became the Training Chair, Julia Gearhart (Troop 110) joined Membership, Robert Barham (Troop 16) manages the website and social media sites, and Brian McMahon (Troop 108) chairs Civic Activities.  And we still have plenty of spots left to fill. We encourage every unit to nominate volunteers. Parents of recent Eagle Scouts can be a great resource. Please contact Philip Alford, alford.philip@gmail.com, to nominate individuals.

We are also pleased to announce Josh Bryan joined us as our District Executive. He previously ran Camp Whitsett.

Membership. Our goal is to have 2,557 youth impacted in the program by year end. We currently impact 2,167 youth, that puts us 390 away from achieving our goal. With a STRONG drive across all Units this last month of the year we can reach this goal! Wisey Corneli, our Membership Chair, corneli.home@gmail.com, and her team have been focused on starting new Packs. What are your membership goals and how can we help you achieve them?

Programs. Richard Marcus recruited many Troops and Packs to help the Culver City 100 Year Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park, which was a very successful demonstration of Scouting to the community. Six different Units attended and had booths! Thank you to Explorer Post 401 for their support. The next Merit Badge College is planned for January 13, 2018. Please contact Isabelle Bowman, Isabelle.bowman@gmail.com, if you can help.

Recognition. We held the Annual Summit Awards lunch on November 15th at the Palisades Legion Post 283. Many were in attendance to honor leaders from across the District, including Exploring.

Journey to Excellence.  Please submit your score cards for 2017 to Josh Bryan by Friday December 15th . In the new year we will hold a Roundtable to review the steps to success for those that haven’t completed it. So, stay tuned.

Thank you again for all you do to support Scouting. You are key to its success and we are here to assist you. Please feel free to share this letter with your Unit Committee and parents.

Sincerely,

Richard Marcus                  Philip Alford                      Joshua Bryan
